The headmaster of a school has been arrested for preventing a candidate from appearing in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam.
The headmaster of Ruri Primary, identified as John Macharia Mwangi, was arrested on Monday, the first day of the 2021 KCPE yesterday.
According to a police report, the headmaster has been arrested for violating the right to education of a 13-year-old child.
The report further revealed that the student, who lived within the Mwea West sub-county, had informed the school, but was barred from entering his class for non-payment of fees.
The report further states that action was taken only after reports of the incident reached the deputy county education director, who later allowed the boy to appear for his exams.
After this the matter was reported to the police and necessary action was taken against the teacher.
DCI Mwea has since taken over the investigation of the matter.
