Professor George Magoha, cabinet secretary under ministry of education, has now encouraged the government to reinstate corporal punishment in schools because it is the most effective approach to stop the rising instances of student indiscipline cases reported.
Under this search, Magoha has proposed that indisciplined learners shouldn’t be given as much freedom as they have now.
According to magoha , instead of leaving everything up to teachers , parents are to discipline and guide their kids.
However, it has been widely known that in order to protect children, the Children’s Act was passed in 2001 and that corporal punishment was outlawed.
In his statement, Magoha has said “We must reinstate canning in schools, and parents must enforce rules rather than expecting our teachers to perform miracles. Being firm with our children while also being”
Cs Magoha was presiding over the launch of the re-engineered National Education Management Information System (Nemis) at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
He has urged stakeholders to start a national conversation on parenting and discipline in schools.
His argument followed a fire incident that destroyed property at Kisumu Boys High School.
CS categorically affirmed that parents would have to bear the cost of the damages following the fire incident that came two days after schools re-opened for Second Term.
