Young children in Konoin sub-county, the ECD center in Cheloino, Bomet County, were expelled from the classroom this morning for forcibly closing their classroom abruptly. An angry contractor who claimed to have built the classroom has not been paid since 2020. The children asked the county government to teach them a lesson.
An angry contractor broke into the school at 10 a.m. and saw innocent children in the classroom with their teacher. The contractor called the teacher and asked her to stop teaching until she was paid. On duty, the teacher told the students to go out and play because the contractor had closed the classroom with a stick. He then hung up posters with the message, “Pay the contractors first, they’re human too.”
The contractor accused County Governor Hillary Barchok of boasting of full ECDEs and yet the contractors who saw it completed are suffering from debt. He claimed that his payment was delayed because he was identified as Isaac Ruto’s partner.
The dramatic scene has badly exposed the county government, with locals condemning it on social media for blaming the administration for the trauma it inflicted on innocent children.
“Contractors, health providers and others, county employees, pay before they show you the door before August arrives.”
