Any Kenyan students pursuing Certificate, Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses in select Public Universities, select University Colleges, Public National Polytechnics, and approved TVET Colleges under the Ministry of Education are eligible for this loan.
A university student receiving a loan from HELB will get a minimum of Sh37,000 and a maximum of Sh60,000 every year. As part of the payment of your school fees, a portion is sent straight to your university or college account.
The remaining amount is to been disbursed to the student’s personal account for personal upkeep. For Self-Sponsored students, the whole loan amount is sent to the student’s university fees account.
When applying for the loan you will need to have the following documents ready.
1. Your national identity card.
2. Copies of the parents national ID Cards/death certificate where the parent is deceased.
3. Copies of your guarantors’ national ID Card. Should be 2. Latest updates says, your parent can be your guarantor.
4. A copy of the applicant’s admission letter and KCSE result slip/certificate.
Applications for HELB are submitted online through the students portal, with a printed copy being delivered to their offices or any nearby Huduma center.
It goes without saying that you will always pay back a loan that you receive. All beneficiaries of HELB loans are obligated to begin loan repayment within one year after their studies are completed.
To lower your loan balance, you can make voluntary payments before or after your studies are over. Your basic salary could be deducted by up to 25% by HELB in order to pay back the loan.
