The first five-year term for TSC Chairperson Dr. Nancy Macharia ended on June 30, 2020. Dr. Nancy Macharia was appointed as Secretary / Chief Executive Officer of Teaching Service on June 30, 2015 to replace her predecessor. Gabriel Lengoiboni (11 years in commission).

Section 8(1) of the TSC Act requires the commission, whenever a vacancy occurs, to advertise the vacancy by notice in the Gazette and to act as a selection committee for the purpose of selecting suitable candidates for appointment as chairman or member team group. The panel has not been created; clarified that Dr. Macharia will have a second five-year term at the helm of the commission.
The decision of the council states that the selection committee will be chaired by a chairman appointed by the President. The council must also have a secretary responsible for education and community service, the attorney general or a representative of three officers. The Federation of Kenya Employers will nominate one, while the teachers’ union will nominate two,men and women – a panel.
The Private School Association will nominate a person and an education officer appointed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education will also sit on the selection panel.
The team then interviews the registered candidates and submits the names of qualified candidates to the President for appointment to the position of Member. Duties and Responsibilities of the Director General of TSC
The Secretary of State is the group’s chief executive officer responsible for implementing the Council’s strategy, policy and decisions.
*Under the direction of the Board, the Secretary performs the following functions:-*
Implement team decisions.
Be the head of the secretariat.
To facilitate, coordinate and ensure the implementation of the Commission’s mandate.
Advise the Board on teacher estimates to facilitate school staffing.
Advise and advise the Board on optimal utilization of available teachers.
Make recommendations to the Council regarding appointments and placements in administrative positions in educational institutions.
Ensure maintenance of teacher rosters and all Task Force records.
Be the Accounting Officer of the Board and ensure the proper and careful implementation of Part IV of the TSC Act and other written laws.
Ensure staff compliance with the constitution and other laws.
Responsible for administration and management of secretariat resources.
Professional development in service learning.
Advise the Council on the suitability of those entering the Teaching Service. One of them has the lowest qualification and experience for the position of Director General of TSC

Be a citizen of Kenya;
Obtain a Bachelor of Education degree from a recognized university in Kenya. Seniors will have additional advantages;
You have at least ten (10) years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resources or financial management.
Convey the values, principles, policies and practices of social services defined in the laws, policies and regulations of education;
Good understanding of Kenyan and international labor laws;
