Finally, the teachers of about five classes will benefit from the new exemptions established in the upcoming promotions, which are expected to be announced at the end of this week.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has regulated standard promotion requirements, offering teachers a shortcut to advancing their careers.
Previously, teachers had to complete a mandatory period of three years before being eligible for promotion. Commissioner of TSC, Dr. Nicodemus Anyang, while addressing a group of about 100 teachers en route to Kisumu for the Kisumu Teachers Fun Day, informed them during a breakfast at Suddex Hotel that the TSC had reduced this requirement by six months.
He encouraged teachers to take advantage of this period to apply, emphasizing the positive impact it could have on their professional development.
Dr. Anyang advised teachers to send their applications in bulk. He emphasized the benefit of focusing on career advancement instead of engaging in strike action, which he said can disrupt the educational process and harm students’ learning experiences.
Adding to the call for action, Moffats Okisai, the executive secretary of Kenya Union of Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Busia Branch, expressed strong support for the TSC’s decision to introduce these exemptions.
He encouraged union members to take advantage of this unique opportunity to demand promotions in large numbers.
