According to TSC , the minimum requirement to teach in secondary school is diploma, but nowadays most of the secondary school teachers are university graduates.
Initially known as the job group for newly employed teachers under (Grade C2), the teacher enjoys a commuter allowance of KSH 5000 and a rental house allowance of KSH 7500.
Then the graduate teacher can now take home the total amount of KSH.38000. However this figure changes if one benefits from HELB loan as some amount is deducted.
The salary details of a newly employed graduate teacher in a secondary school are given below:
1. Basic pay ksh.34,955
2. House Allowance ksh 7,500
3. commuter allowance. 5,000
4. Total earning (before deduction) KSH 47,455.
Teachers note that there are several other deductions subject to the salary of a newly employed teacher. Those deductions include:
-Children and Widow Pension Scheme which is all about Kshs. 699.10.
– University loan recovery about Kshs. 5000.
The above deduction on HELB affects only those teachers who have completed .
Other deductions include teacher unions such as KNUT and KUPPET, KEWOTA, PAYE plus sacco savings.
