Here are the new requirements, appointment, duties and salary for TSC Senior Teachers
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has developed new job grades for teachers under the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).
The current TSC upgradation of teachers led to the elimination of some job groups and the merger of others. Under the new system of grading tutors, the grade formerly known as P1, which was under job group G, was abolished and replaced with grade B5. This grade was designated as the new entry grade for all tutors at the primary school level.
Secondary teachers II are teachers in secondary schools with a grade of C2 (formerly K; grade C2 is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who hold a bachelor’s degree in education or its equivalent.
It is also a promotional grade for holders of Diploma in Education. These teachers earn a monthly basic salary of 34,955-49,694 shillings.
Senior primary school teachers who are in job group C5 will earn 64,631 shillings in the proposed pay increase, an increase of 17,000 shillings. At the moment, they are earning 47896 shillings per month.
Senior teachers in secondary schools earn 157,656 shillings. An increase of 40,000 shillings. Before that he was earning 115163 shillings.
The basic salary for these teachers is paid on the basis of the sectors where they work. Teachers working in Nairobi receive a slightly higher housing allowance than those working in rural schools. But all these teachers earn an amount equal to the commuter allowance; Which is 5,000 shillings.
Requirements for an appointment:
To qualify for appointment to the grade of Senior Teacher II, a teacher must,
Has worked as a primary teacher I T-Scale 6 for a minimum period of three (3) years
Achieve satisfactory rating in performance appraisal process
Have successfully completed relevant TPD modules
Demonstrate an ability to supervise, mentor, and provide professional support to other teachers
Any other duty that may be assigned, has a valid teaching certificate
Satisfy the requirements of Chapter VI (6) of the Constitution and any other requirement that the Commission may consider necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparing lesson plans, lesson notes, timetables, plans of work and maintaining academic standards in the school to ensure the syllabus is covered on time for evaluation.
Teaching subjects of specialization to impart knowledge and skills to the learners
To evaluate learners on subjects of specialization and prepare them for national and other examinations
To provide innovative ideas and programs to ensure improvement in teaching and learning in subjects of specialization
Adopt teamwork through collaborative planning and teaching to ensure continuity and improvement in curriculum delivery
Serve as a role model and maintain learner discipline to create a conducive environment for learning
To provide guidance and counseling services to the learners to establish norms and values for harmonious coexistence
Organize workshops/seminars/seminars to share ideas and further knowledge in subject areas
Organizing remedial actions to support learners with performance gaps
To collect, collate and maintain all school records such as; Enrollment, Teaching and Learning Resources, Assessment Records, Attendance Register
Organizing and coordinating school-based in-service programs to build teacher capacity for better teaching and learning
Organize school-based and regional subject panels to facilitate sharing of knowledge, innovations and new trends
Coordinating gender mainstreaming issues for teachers and learners in curricular and co-curricular activities such as gender equality, equal participation and sports to maximize the potential of teachers and learners
Ensure the safety and health of learners
Ensure cleanliness of school premises and cleanliness of learners
Ensuring discipline in the school and mediating disputes between learners
Engage learners in curricular and co-curricular activities to identify, nurture and develop talents
Serve as Secretary of the School Disciplinary Committee
