Due to the current TSC upgrading of teachers, some job groups were canceled and others were merged.
With the new system of grading tutors, the grade formerly known as P1, which was under Job Group G, was dropped and replaced with Grade B5.
This new grade was designated as the new admission grade for all primary school level teachers. Secondary teachers II are teachers in secondary schools with a grade of C2 (formerly K; grade C2 is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education.)
This is a promotional grade for Diploma in Education holders. These tutors receive a monthly basic salary of 34,955-49,694 shillings. Senior teachers in primary schools who are in job group C5 will earn 64,631 shillings in addition to the proposed salary increase, an increase of 17,000 shillings.
At present they earn 47896 shillings per month. Senior teachers in secondary schools earn 157,656 shillings. An increase of 40,000 shillings. Earlier they were earning 115163 shillings.
Very basic salaries for these teachers are paid based on where they work. Teachers working in Nairobi receive slightly higher housing allowances than teachers working in rural schools. But all these tutors earn the same amount of commuter allowance; Which is 5,000 shillings.
