World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum died in a car accident
The Kenyan marathon world record holder was involved in a greasy road accident that resulted in his death on Sunday night.
Following his demise, the world is now in mourning following the sudden death of reigning world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his Rwandan coach Garvis Hakizimana.
Police reports indicate that the tragic road accident occurred around 11:00pm in the Kaptagat area along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road.

Kevin Kiptum is known for coming to prominence in the world of athletics after recording the fastest marathon debut in Valencia 2022.
The 24-year-old Kiptum star continued his rise in 2023 when he conquered the London Marathon.
He set a marathon record of 2:01:25 in April.
In October last year, Kiptum made global headlines after winning the men’s world record in 2:00:35.
Kiptum became the first man to run a marathon in under two hours and one minute, beating fellow Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge by 34 seconds on the previous record.
Kevin Kiptum’s world marathon was celebrated by World Athletics last week.
The world marathon runner was preparing to start his new season at the Rotterdam Marathon on April 14 this year before he could join the Kenyan team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
