A 20-year-old student died when he slipped from the balcony of the fifth floor at a house party at Race Course Estate at around 4 am on Saturday, March 19.
The Daystar University student was one of eight people who attended the party. When he went to stand on the balcony, his friends assumed he was calling.
Hearing cries after a loud crash, they rushed out, only to find the deceased lying on the ground lying in a pool of blood.
Nairobi Police Commissioner James Mugera said officers briefly questioned the people there before taking the body to the morgue.
“We believe he was drunk at the time of the fall, but we are also looking into whether there were any other concerns that led to this unfortunate tragedy,” he said.
On Monday, March 22, Karanja’s family held an expected mass at Lavington United Church. He was remembered as a promising young man who died too soon.
“A terrible accident took the life of our cousin’s son. Please pray for them, that the God of all comfort may give them peace.” One of his relatives wrote on Twitter.
“You will be missed. Heaven has received a true angel. We are sending healing prayers and soothing hugs to the family,” commented a friend.
