Three people, including an elementary school teacher, have been killed in separate road accidents in Kirinyaga County.
A motorcycle rider and his passenger died on the spot in a collision with a matatu on Monday night in Kibingoti village of Ndia assembly constituency.
According to the police, Matatu was on its way from Sagana town to Karatina when it collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
When the rider collided with Matatu, he was trying to overtake another vehicle.
Police arrived soon after the accident and took the victims’ bodies to the Karatina Hospital morgue, while the vehicle and motorcycle were taken to the Sagana police station and taken into custody for inspection.
In Kimbimbi, a car hit a teacher and died. He was going from Kimbimbi market to Kutus when a car hit him.
Witnesses said they saw the car overturning before colliding with the motorcyclist’s teacher.
Mwea East sub-county police chief Daniel Kitavi said the teacher’s body was taken to the Mwea Mission Hospital morgue.
He said that investigation has been started to ascertain the exact circumstances related to the mishaps.
Kirinyaga women’s representative Wangui Ngirisi expressed concern about the increasing number of accidents and urged motorists to obey traffic laws.
“We don’t want our people to keep dying from accidents that could have been avoided,” she said.
