An accident along the Njoro – Mau Narok road has claimed the lives of candidates who had finished their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination two weeks ago.
Njoro Sub County Police Commander, Isaac Odumbe, confirmed the accident on Friday, March 25, saying that both died on the spot.
Another person in the vehicle along with the minors also died on the spot while a passerby also died in the accident.
Odumbe said the accident happened around 10 pm when a front tire of the car in which the minors were traveling burst.
“There were five passengers in the car, including three boys, whose age is yet to be confirmed,” the police boss said.
The victims were on their way back home from an initiation ceremony at the Kahiriga Kikuyu Shrine. Police said that the initiates graduated after staying at the shrine for 12 days.
Odumbe said the car broke its front tire and rolled several times. According to the police boss, one of the two survivors is in critical condition and is being treated at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.
The initiates spent the day celebrating their pass-out ceremony in their homes in preparation for the festivities ahead.
The bodies were taken to the Egerton University morgue, while the damaged vehicle was taken to the Njoro police station.
Elsewhere, a bus from Ena Sacco involved in an accident along the Nyamira – Ikonge road on Saturday, March 26. Witnesses said the bus going from Kendu Bay to Nairobi crashed in the Nyamotaro area.
Passengers with minor injuries were taken to Ekerenyo Hospital, while seriously injured passengers were referred to Nyamira County and Referral Hospital.
Police reached the accident spot to control the surrounding crowd. After first aid, the first aiders took the injured to the hospital.
