Before the Supreme Court rules on the presidential petition, several of its access highways will be shut down on Monday.
A statement, Nairobi Traffic Police Commander Vitalis Otieno stated that the roads would be closed two hours prior to the court’s scheduled time for the verdict.
Ngong Road will be closed at the junction of Ngong Road 1st Avenue opposite NHIF,” Otieno said in a statement on Sunday.
“No motorist will be allowed to access the CBD through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral Road but instead are advised to use Haile Selassie Avenue,” he said.
At the intersection of Kenyatta Avenue and Valley Road, adjacent to the NSSF facility, Cathedral Road-Milimani Ngong Road will be closed.
“Only vehicles heading to the court will be allowed,” Otieno said adding that all other vehicles should use Valley Road.
Drivers are urged to utilize Haile Selassie-Ngong Road as a detour because the section between Catheral Road and the Haile Selassie Avenue junction will also be closed.
The Supreme Court’s precincts would be closed off to the public, according to acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow, who gave the advice to Kenyans on Saturday.
We wish to advice the general public to avoid gathering at the Supreme Court during the ruling, or congregating in public gatherings but follow the proceedings from the comfort of their homes,” Gabow said.
“Traffic police officers shall be deployed adequately to direct traffic around the court facility,” he added.
