A four-year-old girl was rescued from Kiangogo in Mburi Gichugu village, Kirinyaga County on Wednesday.
Residents of Kiangogo in the village of Mburi Gichugu, Kirinyaga County are still in shock after a four-year-old girl was rescued from more than 40 feet after spending two nights there.
Residents of the area, who have been searching for the little girl since she went missing rescued her after spending two nights in a well.
According to the girl’s father, Bernard Mugo, the female student of Primary 1 of Kianjiru Primary School in Gichugu went missing while returning from school on Monday.
“About 6 pm on Monday, my wife called me where I work as a laborer in Kawuti village and said that my daughter is missing. “I immediately went to look for my daughter,” he said.
Residents of the village and neighborhood of Mirici village said they were alerted by the sound of a baby crying when they found the woman.
“We were with a friend when we heard the child crying and decided to look into the unopened well at our neighbor’s house,” said a local, Rebekah Wanjiku.
Her parents now suspect that their daughter was abducted and dumped in a well after being injured.
“She suffered minor injuries and we detained him at the scene before he was dropped here last night,” he said.
The juvenile was transported to the Kianaga Regional Hospital where he was treated and is currently recovering. The nurse noted that he responded well to treatment afterward.
While residents expressed joy at the girl’s safety, they now want authorities to investigate the isolated incident.
“We want the police to investigate who kidnapped the girl and dumped her here,” said Peter Kariuki, one of the residents.
Gichugu district police said investigations are underway.
