Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos has expressed optimism about being elected a county senator in August, a day after the UDA party’s nominations in 36 counties ended.
Speaking at a ceremony in the county on Saturday, April 16, the second-term governor, who is eyeing the county’s senatorial seat in August, warned his rival Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his boss, Vice President William Ruto, that they should be given a Must be ready for a tough fight.
“I had decided to go for retirement after August, but here is a young boy named Murkomen who is playing. I have already informed them that I will vote on Jubilee Party ticket in August. I promise him an epic fight and if Ruto tries to save him, it will be worse for him. I know Ruto will camp here to save him but I will take him home,” Tolgos said.
The governor urged residents to check them and their scorecards and give the highest performer a chance to lead.
He said, however, that he is ready to give up if the people decide that it is going to be Murkomen.
He is the third governor of the Rift Valley region, after his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jackson Mandago and Narok County’s Samuel Tunai, to throw his hat into the senatorial ring.
Murkomen was given the UDA party’s direct nomination ticket when his only remaining competitor decided to run on an independent ticket.
