The Moi Girls Eldoret school community was in a state of panic when a fire broke out in a building hosting laboratory on Thursday night.
No one was injured in the incident. Two physics laboratories and a chemical store sitting on the top floor of a two-storey building were demolished. A fire also broke out in a section of the Home Science Laboratory.
The lower part of the building, which houses the chemistry laboratories, was not affected.
The cause of the 11 p. m. fire was not immediately clear as school authorities were not available for comment.
After learning about the fire, Eldoret and his parents, terrified of the environment, rushed to the school to make sure their children were safe.
The Uasin Gishu Fire Department was able to contain the fire, although nothing was saved and completely destroyed.
The teachers later locked the door and gathered the students for the prayer service. No one was allowed into the school compound.
Police were at the scene until 1:30 p.m., as the fire engine continued to contain the fire.
